Description: The Parafoil-5 is a traditional foil shaped kite.
Skill Level: Well suited for children.
We flew/tested the Rainbow Parafoil-5 (series 12031) in somewhat gusty 15 MPH wind. In this wind range the kite went up easily and flew mostly steady and handled the turblent winds fairly well. The kite also flew steady in light and moderate winds of 6 to 14 MPH. The enclosed instructions state the recommended/optimum wind range to be 6 to 26 MPH . We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 6 to 15 MPH. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: Parafoil-5 kite, 500 feet of 50 pound test line on a plastic 6.5 inch yoyo winder, nylon tails, ripstop nylon storage bag, and instructions.
The dimensions of the kite are 20 inches wide x 32 inches long with three 14 foot 8 inch nylon hemmed tails.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. It is a fixed bridle. Assembly is quick and easy. Tie the enclosed line to the plastic ring which attaches to the bridle. Note: If you want to use the line (with winder) for other kites, tie a metal snap swivel (not included) to the flying line and attach the snap swivel to the plastic ring.
The sail is made of appliqued ripstop nylon (for applicable designs). The sail and tail are hemmed for increased durability.
Due to the small sail area of this kite it lends itself best for visual appeal at a height of 100 feet or less.
It is a safe kite to fly since there are no rods, it is a frameless (soft) kite. It makes a nice a travel kite which can be placed in your suitcase without fear of breaking the kite.
Summary: At a club member price of $24.89, the Parafoil-5 is a good value for the beginner flyer.
