Manufacture: NewTech Kites
Name: 29 inch Cody Box
Price: $20.37 (FWW club member price)
Description: This a traditional cody box kite
Skill Level: Well suited for children and adults
We flew/tested the NewTech Cody 29 inch Box kite in a wind range from about 10 to 12 MPH. In this wind range the kite was unstable, drifting/leaning back and forth towards one side or the other. And at times the kite nose dived into the ground. The instructions state the wind range to be 8 to 18 MPH. We estimate the recommended/realistic and safe wind range to be about 6 to 10 MPH. Attaching a fringe tail improves flight stability. FYI: Around 18 MPH sand starts to move/blow across the beach where we test our kites.
Kite Contents: 29 inch Cody Box, 30 pound test line on a plastic hand winder, clear vinyl storage bag, instructions.
The dimensions of the kite are 29 inches wide x 25 inches high x 8 inches deep.
The kite requires no modifications to the bridle. Assembly takes about a minute. There are 4 spars. Insert the two shorter cross spars diagonally through the slots in the rear wing of the kite into the side pockets.
Insert the two longer cross spars diagonally through the slots in the front wing of the kite into the side pockets. The instructions are clear to understand using both text and diagrams.
The sail is made of ripstop nylon. The sail is hemmed for durability.
The small sail area of this kite lends itself best for visual appeal at a height up to about 100 feet.
Summary: At a club member price of $20.37, the NewTech 29 inch Cody Box is a below average value due to its limited flying wind range and unstable flight characteristics.
The NewTech 29 inch Cody Box comes in several different colors.
